Tieto develops new business models for the digital environment. The goal is to create new international business and to promote the expansion of the ecosystem by making use of the potential in the built environment.

Tieto participates in the Virpa project with its Empathic Building service business, which combines IoT solutions, real-time analytics of space utilisation and visualisation of the key data. The project involves extensive applied research, and concepts are tested for their suitability for the urban environment.

We also offer, when appropriate, our business premises as experimental platforms where it is possible to use a real user environment to implement PoCs. Research and test results are incorporated into product development so that products and services meet the needs of national and international target groups. The project will create new ways to store, combine and analyse data from the property and its use.

We lead the Empathic Building mini-ecosystem and invest in steering group activities, running projects and international collaboration with companies and research partners. We also aim to bring the results from other research programmes and pilot projects, such as those involving artificial intelligence, into the Virpa D project.

We will ensure that the project will achieve results by bringing several small businesses into the project ecosystem and network. Special emphasis is on business modelling, service design, artificial intelligence, an open-minded approach to new opportunities and especially the use of new, disruptive and innovative technologies in collaboration with all partners in the project.

On the basis of and outside the project, we will commercialise the concept to be developed in the field of applied research in the international target areas. The project aims to promote awareness overseas of the Finnish concepts designed to apply digitalisation.
