University of Oulu

The University of Oulu provides the Virpa projects with R&D expertise in new technologies (IoT, system automation, wireless technologies, mixed reality and distributed artificial intelligence) and their applications in real-estate services.

Four research units from the University of Oulu are involved in the Virpa projects: the Centre for Wireless Communications (CWC), the Systems Engineering Research Unit, the Centre for Ubiquitous Computing (Ubicomp) and Oulu Business School.

The CWC’s expertise lies particularly in providing and adapting the 5G test platform to meet the real-estate industry’s requirements. The Systems Engineering Research Unit provides expertise in automatic control engineering and control systems for real-estate management needs. The special expertise of the Ubicomp Unit includes mixed reality and distributed artificial intelligence and their utilisation in property maintenance. Oulu Business School brings in expertise in research and development of business activities and ecosystems springing up from digitalisation, especially from the perspective of business and revenue models and internationalisation. Sharing economy, transparency and ecosystems are phenomena of digital business.
